At Women’s Refuge, we offer more than just 24/7 access to our safe houses – there are lots of other ways we support women and children who may be experiencing violence.

If you’re experiencing family violence or if you feel unsafe, call our free 24-hour crisis line on 0800 REFUGE (0800 733 843).

Your call is completely confidential, and we won’t judge you – no matter what.
You can also email us at or send us a Facebook message.

And remember, if you are in immediate danger, always call 111.

If you’re worried about violence, we’re here for you

When you call 0800 REFUGE, you’ll speak to a person who understands. They will listen to you and support you in making choices that can help keep you and your whānau safe.

You might just need to chat to someone over the phone, to talk through what’s happening to you. Maybe something just doesn’t feel right, you’re worried or unsure.

We’re here no matter what you need or where you are, even if you’re in an isolated region – our main concern is your safety. And if you need them, we can put you in touch with other people who can help, including counsellors, doctors, lawyers and other support services.

There are many ways we can help

As well as our crisis line and safe houses, we also offer a range of other services if you need them. We can advocate for you if you’re dealing with police, legal, court, WINZ, housing, doctors, immigration, schools and Oranga Tamariki. We also offer education and support groups for women and children about living free from violence, and we offer information and presentations to community groups, schools and workplaces as part of our Workplace Refuge training.

Our team understands family violence

At Women’s Refuge, we believe that violence is never okay, it’s not your fault, and it happens to all sorts of people. We understand that domestic violence is a pattern of power, control and coercion and that abuse is not just physical. We help women and children every day who are going through the same things you’re going through.
